Acupuncture is one of the oldest and most commonly used forms of natural and traditional medicine in the world. Dating back almost 3,000 years, acupuncture diagnosis uses a complex system that views the person as a whole. It is based on the ancient Chinese theory of the flow of qi(chee) and blood through specific meridians or pathways that are throughout the body. A healthy person has open meridians where the blood and energy flow smoothly and once a pathogen or ailment occurs that meridians pathway is blocked.
The theory is that acupuncture helps release that block and allows the blood to flow smoothly again. Although two patients can come in with the same symptom, the underlying cause can vary greatly and each person is treated for their specific manifestations. Acupuncture and herbal medicine take into consideration the physical, mental, and emotional factor that contributes to a certain condition and in doing so, the root of the disease is targeted.
Modern research has shown that acupuncture works with the central nervous system to stimulate the release of endorphins,, improve circulation, and enhance immune function. There have been large, well-designed studies that prove the effectiveness of acupuncture in treating arthritis, increasing the success rate of IVF, treatments for headaches and many other ailments
